Humility > Pride

“I’m the most humble man you’ll ever meet.” My wife is a wonderful woman and has to put up with sayings like this coming out of my mouth. None of us could ever genuinely make this claim, but the eye roll and the occasional sly smile it creates in my wife makes it worth it for me.

As we know, God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). If you contrast the characteristics of humility and pride, it’s easy to see the drastic differences and the consequences of each of these traits. Continue reading Humility > Pride

Contentment! This one is my favorite episode yet!

In this episode, Laramie Gildon and I talk about the biblical mandate for Christians to be Content. As you know, our intent is to tie these practical topics back to Theology by seeing the character of God in the passages we look at. Contentment is only possible if God’s children are trusting in His Control and His Goodness.

New Years Resolutions

In this episode, Laramie Gildon and I talk about New Years Resolutions in the life of a Christian. We discuss weather or not it is legitimate for a Christian to engage in the kinds of resolutions, and if so, what cautions we should have. Also, what might be some biblical resolutions to have for the new year. I hope this is a blessing to you in this new year. May God work in all of us to make us what He wants us to be.

Jesus, the ultimate example of forgiveness

In this episode, Laramie Gildon and I discuss the necessity of forgiveness in the life of every Christian. It is absolutely vital for the health of every human relationship. Ultimately, we find the example of forgiveness showcased in Jesus as He forgives us of our sin. We will discuss some of the implications of this in the episode. I hope you enjoy.

The Local Church

Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2001). (Heb 10:23–25). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

I would like to take a moment to promote local church ministry. Involvement in local church ministry has deteriorated considerably. I would be tempted to think that this is a modern phenomenon, but according to the above passage this has been an issue even in biblical times. So many people view church as a recourse where they can come a get a recharge, or perhaps receive an added blessing if they attend. Continue reading The Local Church

Hello world!

Hi everybody!

Tyler Perry here. And, no, I am not the actor you are probably thinking about. I am a humble Assistant/Music Pastor down in South Texas. This is going to be an exciting place to learn about God’s word and what it means for us today. I have many things that I want to do with this site in the future, and thank you for being patient with me as I am very new to running a website. I will be developing a very in-depth bio for myself in the future, so a brief intro will suffice for now.

I am a graduate of Bob Jones University in Greenville SC. If that frustrates some of you don’t worry, I do not hold to all the positions of the school. I am married with no kids yet. To pay the bills I work as the Consultant/Chaplain for a growing Hospice company. I have ministry experience in local church work, Music Pastor for several years here in my local church, several years of nursings home ministries, Chaplain/Chorister for 2 years in my college society, counseling college age men as a RA in the dormitories and a few years of prison ministry preaching and teaching.

I hope that the limited experience that God has allowed me to have up to this point will be an asset to the content of this site and the upcoming podcast.
